Construction Sector – SSW (ii) Successful Candidate Interview: “Mr. Santaraj”

We spoke with Mr. Shakya Santaraj, who has passed the Specified Skilled Worker (ii) examination in the construction sector, about his journey so far and his future goals.

How long have you been living in Japan?

Answer:
I have been living in Japan for six years.

Why did you decide to work in Japan?

Answer:
I thought that Japan is a country where people take their work very seriously and have a high level of technical skill. I decided to work in Japan because I wanted to gain construction skills and on-site experience while working here

Why did you aim for Specified Skilled Worker (ii)?

Answer:
Because I wanted to work in Japan for a long time. Specified Skilled Worker (ii) requires experience and advanced skills, so I decided to challenge myself because I wanted to grow further.

What kind of efforts did you make to pass the exam?

Answer:
I studied a little every day. After work, I read textbooks and reviewed the parts I didn’t understand many times. Even when I was busy, I made sure to keep studying every day.

What do you think is important in Japanese workplaces?

Answer:
I think it is very important to work seriously and to prioritize safety in Japanese workplaces. I also feel that good communication with others and following established rules are essential.

How did you feel when you passed the exam?

Answer:
I was very happy. I truly felt that all my hard work had paid off.

What are your goals from now on?

Answer:
I want to continue working in Japan and further improve my construction (civil engineering) skills.
My goal is to work safely and become a worker who is trusted by those around me.

Answer:
Working in Japan can be challenging, but if you keep trying, you will definitely grow.
Do not give up, and keep making small efforts every day.
